The Reverend John Todd Ferrier
1855-1943

John Todd Ferrier was born in Greenock, Scotland. After his ordination he became a pastor in the Congregational Church, first in Preston and later in Macclesfield, England. He became profoundly moved by the writings of Anna Kingsford and Edward Maitland and, in response to an inner urge and a deep feeling of compassion towards the creatures, he left the Church in 1903. In the following year, he founded the Order of the Cross. Through the written and spoken word he gathered together many men and women who were deeply moved by the Message he gave, and who desired to follow the way of life set forth therein. This Message is presented in over 50 books and booklets containing John Todd Ferrier’s writings and transcripts of the numerous addresses he gave. The books and booklets are maintained in print by the Order of the Cross.

John Todd Ferrier’s ministry was unceasing and continued throughout his life. He is remembered as a friend and shepherd of souls, as a noble example of the life passionately set out in the sublime message he brought to the world.
