The text of this illumination is a paraphrase of Psalm XXIII. The top picture shows a peaceful landscape with green pastures, a flock of sheep and the quiet waters. In the sky a heavenly body pours forth light over a faintly discerned forest of trees, representing members of Celestial hierarchies. Each verse has its picture with radiating light, and in descending order these show: the figure of Adonai, with a ruby in His girdle; a peaceful landscape with the Star and the Crescent in the evening sky; the shadowed vale with the crosses of Calvary silhouetted against the sky, a River of Life barely visible; the table furnished with Bread and Wine (grapes); and last an altar with overshadowing cherubim and seraphim.
